Summer Fashions

On a tight budget this summer for clothes? Want to get new summer trends but aren't ready to spend 30 dollars for that cute shirt at Forever 21? Then I have some solutions for you!

1. Thift shops. These aren't my personal pick, I don't really enjoy the idea of wearing some else's clothes, but then again, I'm not normal. You can find some really cute clothes there, and you can find branded stuff that teens wear (Forever 21, Hollister, A&F, American Eage, etc.) for a great price.

2. TJ Maxx and Marshall's. Love. These. Stores. Marshall's organizes their store by short sleeve, long sleeve, tank tops, etc. It makes it much easier to shop and find exactly what you are looking for. Plus, you can find designer brands and some adorable shoes and clothes that are just perfect for your closet.

3. Sales. How many summer sales are there? A ton. There are always so many options. Like a super cute bikini at American Eagle but not ready to spend like 35 dollars on it? Wait for it to come on sale, and buy it for 20 or 15.

4. Which mall? Actually, not many people know, but different malls have different prices. If there is a huge mall and there is always a huge number of people, the clothes will be super expensive, because so many people will buy them. A large mall, with not much business will have more promotional sales to get people coming to them. This really makes a huge price difference. Also, they would have more options because not all the clothes are picked through.

5. The classic DIY. Old clothes that are just too small? Try to cut off pieces of fabric and salvage them  (with parents permission). Also, have a boring pair of shorts that are white? Try painting them with fabric or acrylic paint to help add some color and uniqueness to them, instead of buying those adorable 25 dollar ombré shorts, just look up how to make them on google and get started!

I really hope these ideas inspire you and help you get on track for this summer! Please comment and share this blog with friends! We really appreciate you reading and supporting us! Email us at liveinhotpink@gmail.com with ideas and inspiration!!!

Get More Out of Your Clothes!

Hey guys! AllieCat here. So it's that time of year when you are just starting to think about cold weather clothes. It's still summer, but you find yourself going through jeans from last year. And there is always that sad moment when your favorite pair of jeans is too short, and it leaves your ankles exposed. But wait! Don't throw those in the trash! You can easily repurpose those old jeans to be shorts! It's simple.

What You Will Need:
  • pair of too short jeans
  • fabric scissors or just really sharp ones :)
  • needle and thread (optional)
  • iron (optional)
  • bleach (optional)
  • razor knife (optional)
Here's what you do:
  1. put your pair of jeans on
  2. using a marker, mark where you want to cut them (NOTE: make the cut about 2-3 inches longer than the length you want the shorts to end up)
  3. take off the jeans an lay them out flat
  4. using your scissors, cut straight along the mark you made ON ONE LEG
  5. then, fold the jeans in half hot dog style, line up very evenly, and cut the other leg along the line you already cut.
  6. now you have a pair of shorts. Below are some options to make them more attractive or spice them up!
Bleaching:

Bleaching denim gives it a distressed look. It lightens the fabric to create cool effects. Here are some things you can do with bleaching!
  1. tie dye bleaching:
  • scrunch up your new shorts and place rubber bands in different areas completely randomly.
  • Fill a spray bottle with 1/2 bleach, 1/2 water, and lightly spray denim
  • After about 10 minutes, unwrap shorts and see if it is faded enough for your taste. if not, leave it for a little longer.
  • when it is sufficiently faded, wash them!
    2.  Distress bleaching:
  • Fill spray bottle with a mix of bleach and water. The ratio depends on how faded you want this to be
  • Spray certain areas. The ones that look best would be around the pockets, cuffs, and very lightly on the legs.
  • Wait until it is sufficiently faded, then wash!
Cuffing:

This will give your shorts a neater appearance.
  1. Simply fold up the bottoms of your shorts twice, aka double cuffing.
  2. If you want to, use needle and thread to sew the sides of the cuffing so they don't come undone.
  3. I recommend ironing the cuff to keep the creases stiff.
Distressing:

This gives your shorts a worn, and well, distressed look.

  1. Simply take a sharp razor knife, and repeatedly swipe across the fabric so there is slight fraying and tears. I don't reccomend making large holes in your shorts...
And now you have a super cute pair of shorts that didn't cost a dime! You can also make cheap shorts just by purchasing a pair of jeans from goodwill and using these techniques. This way, your shorts will be cheaper, and you can make them more dress code appropriate then some you would find at stores!

Have fun and don't forget about our contest in the previous post!

Fruit Smoothies!

Hi! Allie here with another delicious and healthy summer treat! Want something that's healthy, yummy, and oh-so-refreshing? How about a fruit smoothie! This recipe isn't your ordinary smoothie recipe. There is no yogurt, just milk. So it is not as thick, but very light and delicious. It's a glass of frothy goodness!

This recipe works well with any fruit, but my favorites are banana or peach. I will show you the recipe for the peach one, but you can substitute peach for fruits like strawberries, bananas, papaya, or any combination of those.

You will need:
1 cup of milk
about 1/2 cup of chopped peaches (or other fruit)
1 tablespoon of sugar (you can add more if you want :)
1 tablespoon of honey (optional)
1/2 teaspoon of vanilla (add more if you like)

Blend all the ingredients until you have a smooth, refreshing smoothie! This recipe makes one serving, so double it if you want to share with a friend. Serve chilled or over crushed ice if desired.

ENJOY! :))

Hey guys, Sniggy here! It is that time of year again. Pool time. Of course, most people contemplate which type of swimsuit is better. I feel that they can all be good.

One piece swimsuits is what I wear, and those of you that might feel uncomfortable showing your belly might want to go with this option. You can get so many different patterns and styles! I know if you do swimming, you show wear this type of swimsuit! You can really buy them anywhere!

Sandals

Something that is really hot right now is sandals. Greek Sandals! An example on the right! Every one is wearing them! Some great places to get them right now is TJ Max, Forever 21, and other stores that you may love!

The thing that I really like about Greek Sandals is that you can get really any style and any color. You can get them with buckles and flowers with thick or thin straps. You can get the braided type or just the plain type. Everyone is wearing them now. They are really summery and look good with almost any type of clothing. They might hurt the back of your foot, if they do, just put one band aid on each foot!!!

That's all for this time!! Check back later for more! Email us at liveinhotpink@gmail.com .
